Garden consultation
The perfect way to improve your garden.
A garden consultation with Lydia could help to inspire, guide and advise you on your garden.
It's ideal for you if you don't need a detailed scaled drawing of your entire garden because you're not undertaking a major renovation and you don't need the professional services of a garden designer.
It could be the perfect service if you're looking to upgrade one particular area of your garden or just in need of inspiration.
You might be wondering about growing your own cut flowers or vegetables and need some help getting started. A garden consultation that is full of ideas and practical know-how could be just what you need to achieve the garden of your dreams.
How does a garden consultation work?
It starts with a conversation to talk about what you think you need help with, and then continues with a visit to your garden. Depending on the size of your garden (and what you need help with), Lydia will spend time with you in your garden discussing your needs. After this, she will prepare written guidance and send this to you. This might include a comprehensive Plant List including recommended suppliers. It will include everything that has been discussed and additional suggestions. You can use this material as a reference guide for making purchases, advising a gardener or to price up the work using your own preferred suppliers. A follow-up call and further meetings can be booked if you'd like more help.
What will be discussed?
Some of the main factors to be considered are:
-
What you'd like to achieve
-
What you'd like help and advice with
-
How much time will be spent looking after the plants and/or associated maintenance costs
-
Colour schemes and preferences
-
How your timeframe and budget impacts any projectwork
-
Ideas and inspiration for your project
-
Things you might not have considered
-
Suggestions for improvements or alterations
How long does a garden consultation last?
A half-day consultation is recommended (4 hours). This includes an initial telephone call, a visit to your garden (lasting approximately 2-3 hours) and discussions about what you need help with. You have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you like.
What happens after the garden visit?
Lydia will send you a pack of information after the visit detailing everything that was discussed and the practical steps you can take to put the ideas into reality. As a rough guide and depending on what you need help with, this may include some or all (or none) of the following:
-
Planting List
-
How to Get Started with Veg
-
Perfect Pollinators for Insects (and Where To Buy Them)
-
Help with Encouraging Wildlife into the Garden
-
Where to Put the Compost Heap and How To Do It
-

Where is this service available?
Normally limited to a 25 mile radius of Marlow (SL7) in Buckinghamshire and Henley-on-Thames (RG9) in Oxfordshire but this can be discussed.
How much does it cost?
You'll understand that the total price will depend on how much of Lydia's time you need and the extent of the work that is required. To give you an indication, prices start from £65 per hour.
